How pasby Continues to Evolve Digital Identification in Africa
March 2023: pasby is Founded
The idea behind pasby was born out of a desire to provide Africa with a secure, user-friendly digital identification system that could rival the likes of Sweden’s BankID. March 2023 marks the official founding of pasby, and the beginning of our journey to create a national authentication framework that simplifies access to sensitive applications for residents and expatriates alike.
From the very start, our vision has been to build a platform that would empower users, allowing them to take control of their digital identity while eliminating the need for redundant third-party authentication systems.
June 2023: Alpha Release at OSCA Fest, Lagos
Just a few months after founding, pasby reached its first major milestone: the release of our alpha version. In June 2023, we took the stage at OSCA Fest Lagos, one of the leading tech events in Nigeria, to demo the first iteration of our product suites.
The alpha release allowed early adopters to get a taste of pasby’s single sign-on (SSO) service. This foundational feature enabled users to securely access various platforms using a single, trusted digital identity, eliminating the need for multiple logins and creating a seamless user experience.
September 2023: pasby Developer Console is Launched
In September 2023, we introduced the pasby Console for Developers, a comprehensive platform that gives developers the tools they need to create, retrieve, verify, and manage pasby API credentials. This change was a significant leap forward in terms of providing developer-friendly solutions and fostering integrations across various applications and industries.
The pasby Console is more than just a developer tool—it's a gateway for businesses to implement secure digital identification with minimal friction. This update made it easier for companies to integrate pasby’s identity solutions into their existing workflows, enabling faster deployment and reducing onboarding time.
March 2024: Phase 1 Mass Rollout
The start of 2024 will bring one of the most exciting developments yet: the Phase 1 mass rollout of pasby in Nigeria. Beginning in March 2024, Nigerian passport holders will be able to activate their digital Pasby pass directly from the app, streamlining secure access to various services and applications.
This rollout is not just a product launch; it’s a testament to our commitment to making digital identity and authentication more accessible across the African continent. With this phase, we will enable individuals to easily verify their identity and perform secure online actions, all while maintaining control over their personal information.
October 2024: Phase 2 Relaunch and Expansion of Services
Looking ahead to October 2024, Pasby will undergo an exciting evolution with the Phase 2 relaunch, expanding beyond single sign-on to become a comprehensive eID provider. This new version of Pasby will simplify the entire process of secure login, enabling users to approve online actions via a notification in the app and their personal code—an intuitive and consistent experience every time.
Our enhanced app will offer not just authentication, but also digital signatures, identification, and confirmation services. Whether signing documents, verifying transactions, or logging into various platforms, pasby will be your all-in-one solution for secure, seamless online interactions. As always, privacy remains our priority—your data stays yours, and we are transparent about how and when it’s shared.
